This design by Wogg designer and founder Willi Glaeser is the result of a close collaboration with engineers and materials specialists over a 13-month period. Wogg has been crafting space-saving sliding-door systems for cabinets and sideboards since its founding 1983.
“This ingenious system virtually erases all the limitations to design and architecture,” says Christophe Marchand, Wogg Creative Director.
The new WOGG 75 takes the best features of Wogg’s celebrated systems and eliminates old problems: now the sliding mechanism is not only stable and quiet but for the first time enables convex and concave radii as well. The WOGG 75 system consists of a sliding mechanism, which serves as a guiding component, and aluminium profiles. The small plastic component that encloses a soft rubber tyre can be clipped into any pre-cut spot in the slats. Their shape allows for custom dimensions as well as concave and convex radii with a variety of widths.
The recently patented technology works on both individual pieces of furniture and interior fittings, and in exterior design or other areas of industrial design (ships, aircraft, motor vehicles, etc.).
WOGG 75 was distinguished by the jury of the Innovation Award Architecture+ Office 2020 for being a “highly successful reinterpretation of the roller shutter cabinet”. They explain their decision as follows: “The novelty consists in the concealed door fitting technology, which ensures that the running blades cannot be seen, even when [the cabinet is] open. Thanks to the use of extruded aluminium profiles, the product is sturdy and therefore suitable for use in both homes and offices. We would also like to see this structure in larger, higher door elements”.
The Innovation Award Architecture+ Office was awarded by architecture magazines AIT and XIA by AIT as well as the ORGATEC trade fair for an eleventh time to conceptual solutions that are outstanding both in their design and functionality.
