Insit

Upholstered furniture suggests high quality, superb comfort and relaxation. It can also divide spaces up into zones and improve the acoustics. In the past, upholstered chairs and benches with backrests were limited to customer service areas, foyers, lobbies and waiting areas, but nowadays they’re encountered in areas in the middle of rooms, cross-over and co-working spaces, bistros and company restaurants. Because new working environments are spawning the creation of different settings where people can withdraw to for some peace and quiet or to encourage interaction and collaboration.

Wilkhahn can look back on long-standing experience in designing first-class seating: legendary examples are the 1200 waiting bench range by Friso Kramer, the 7000 range by Hans Peter Piehl or the 840 range by ProduktEntwicklung Roericht. The company collaborated with designer Wolfgang C.R. Mezger to produce Insit. This is an example of a traditional type of upholstered bench translated into a multipurpose seating range to reflect the professional requirements of today’s working environments.

• It comes with a seating height of 45 cm to enable working, communicating, eating and drinking at normal table heights and in combination with chairs. Flexible solutions that can be used by everybody are the result.
• The bench’s upholstery is firm and ergonomic to encourage agile and dynamic styles of working.
• The design’s integrative, which on the one hand turns this item of furniture into a sculptural form and on the other hand allows customisation to match interior design concepts.

Characteristic of the bench’s distinctive look are the separately moulded backrests on the fully upholstered seating areas, which, in turn, appear to float over the classy A-line aluminium bases. Consequently, the upholstered benches with backrests look stable and lightweight at the same time. In addition to the high-quality aesthetic, this does have very practical advantages: the benches are very easy to take hold of, flexible to rearrange and the open foot section with just two base elements makes cleaning floors simpler.

Broadly scalable and versatile
The range of two-, two-and-a-half and three-seaters includes benches that are straight or radial benches or linked 90° at the corner and come with linear backrests or ones that are at an angle on one or both sides. Models with open ends also offer space at the front and the three-seater is even available with a backrest that changes direction. Models with high backrests are the right solution if more privacy’s required. By contrast, benches without backrests invite people to come and sit or lie on them from both sides – for example in quiet areas. Thanks to inline connectors and connecting panels, the individual modules can be combined to create whole suites that people can sit on and work from.

A coordinated table range to match
The upholstery materials can be chosen from the whole Wilkhahn fabric and leather collection and there’s also an especially environmentally friendly, hard-wearing and practical synthetic leather. The bench system is also complemented by a matching table range consisting of lounge, side and dining tables with power supply modules. The lounge tables’ frames are made of polished die-cast aluminium, the pedestal tables of chrome-plated or coated steel and the table tops of MDF or plywood depending on the lipping.

Therefore, Insit becomes a multipurpose seating system for co-working, eating, drinking, holding meetings or relaxing. It’s very scalable and easy to adapt to different settings. Nevertheless, its distinctive design is the common denominator that’s recognised throughout.

The Insit range can be ordered and supplied from November 2018.
