It is above all a shared passion for the properties of wood that is the basis of the friendship between the designer Michele De Lucchi and the Riva brothers, Maurizio and Davide, who met at the Milan Triennale while they were working on parts of the insta
llation and furnishings there. Maurizio and Davide Riva are today the owners of RIVA 1920, a company renowned for its expertise in working solid wood.
Thus, for RIVA and DE LUCCHI wood is not merely a production material but much, much more: i
t would be an exaggeration to say that for them wood is at the root of how we live. The standard version of the table CANTU' (so named in honor of the North Italian town famous throughout the world for its high quality furniture production) is made of sol
id walnut.
The table CANTU' is also available in a more exclusive version: as a single piece of KAURI wood, a wood that has survived with its qualities in tact after over three hundred centuries!
In both cases it is the great table that i
s the central feature rather than the base of the table. The legs look like carpenters tools; made of very thick iron, they are basic, spare and practical.
An inspired idea from Michele De Lucchi, transformed into a new products thanks to the capabi
lities and traditions of the cabinet makers working for RIVA 1920.
