Ingeniously combined
Combining good things, that’s the strategy behind the “Ampersand” in Lucerne. As a restaurant, bar and lounge, the spacious premises dating from 1896 offer guests an array of opportunities to enjoy good food, fine wines and select cigars. Architect Özgür Keles of Build Inc. Architekten designed the homely areas in the “Ampersand”. He wanted to reference the special nature of the building, with its strong Heimat heritage look, in the interior design, by combining the ornamental and clear shapes. His choice for the interior was unsurprisingly: Zeitraum. “The furniture Zeitraum creates are high quality and exhibit a pared-down, timeless formal vocabulary that blends well,” Özgür Keles says.
The anthracite and sage colored walls and upholstery contrast gracefully with metallic details and bright woods. The shape of the rounded window arches is repeated in the zestful lines of the chair backrests, as with the solid wood “Nonoto Comfort”, which is great to sit on thanks to the exceptional comfort to which its name alludes. The “Morph Lounge” armchair also scores strongly with the softly shaped armrests and comfortable seating shell mold. Together with the two-seater “Morph Duo Lounge” and the “Turntable Couch” side-table, Özgür Keles has created homely groups of seating in the “Ampersand” lounge – but thanks to their slender frames they do not take up any unnecessary space. The solid wood “Turntable Couch” looks as if it were milled from a single piece of wood and can be placed at will in the setting. The bar boasts “1.3 Bar” stools: Fine contours give this sturdy solid-wood structure a light and uncluttered look. The pad-like seat can be upholstered as an option. (am)
