A summer’s day in winter
The sun always shines at Ingolstadt indoor aquatic center – thanks to the 24-meter-long wall surface decorated with colorful tiles from Villeroy & Boch Tiles. A finely tailored color gradient combining yellow and green tones accompanies swimmers along its walkway and is reflected in the water of the pool. The mosaic is entitled “Farbchromatik Sommertag”, or “Color Chromaticism of a Summer’s Day”, and was designed by the artist Werner Kapfer. His idea was chosen in a competition launched by the Director of Culture for the city of Ingolstadt. The work is divided into two parts, each measuring 1.70 by 12 meters, and adorns the west side of the main swim hall. It was inspired by the colors of the sun shining through foliage and the reflections of the outdoor world that appear on the surface of the water.
For the realization of the wall mosaic, the ceramic color and format system “Pro Architectura” by Villeroy&Boch Tiles was selected. Slip-resistant, modular and available in numerous color nuances, the tiles, which measure 10 x 10 cm each, offer the ideal prerequisites for use in a swimming pool. The harmonious connection of the selected yellow and green tones is refreshing and energetic, making a pleasing impression on swim guests young and old. With the color tones that stem from nature, the artist also makes a lively reference to the park that directly adjoins the aquatic center. (am)
