FEATURED PROJECT
Illuminated Guides
When redesigning the churchyard of St. Mary’s parish church in the Bad Godesberg district of Bonn, 5b Bau- und Projektmanagement’s brief was to create a meeting place. Naturally enough, the intention was for the area between the existing church and the new parish center to be used for different purposes – as a popular meeting place for the parish and as a pedestrian link to downtown Bad Godesberg. And when it came to lighting and drainage, TTC Timmler Technology and Ado Lights fitted the bill.
The TTC Drainlight, a combination of high-end stainless-steel drainage channel and linear or cross gratings by TTC Timmler Technology, and LED lighting by Ado Lights was chosen for the project. To achieve perfect illumination, the linear LED lights are integrated at different angles. To this end, the facade drainage channel featuring a stainless steel grating cover and integrated surface lights on the facade mullions surrounds the parish center. The length of the TTC Drainlight matches the facade exactly. The churchyard itself features the TTC Drainlight with an open slotted channel and linear LED light. For the filigree linear gratings the architects had a choice of stainless steel, aluminum, bronzed or black versions. As with the TTC Drainlight on the facade, the color of the LED lights are dimmable and, if need be, can be controlled. Purely for drainage purposes there are also discreet stainless steel slotted channels, which blend in elegantly with the alignment of the cobblestones in the churchyard. A strip steel surround with integrated LED light guides visitors along them. Close to the town center the new plaza at St. Mary’s parish church creates a new, quiet space, which the TTC facade channels structure and orchestrate superbly. (am)
