A firm hold for a heavy lift
A little piece of forest in the port city: At the Wälderhaus in Hamburg’s Wilhelmsburg district, everything is geared towards the natural ecosystem. Even the irregularly staggered façade made from untreated larch wood points to the thematic orientation of the five-story building designed by Studio Andreas Heller Architects & Designers. In 2014, the building was awarded the BDA Hamburg Architecture Prize. The Wälderhaus houses a permanent exhibition on the topic of forests, plus office and event spaces and a hotel and gastronomy complex.
As regards the building’s sustainability concept, for the doors the architects chose hinge systems from Simonswerk, which boast an environmentally-friendly product declaration for ecological building audits. What’s more, the heavy wooden doors are not a problem for the Variant VX hinge system – which can securely uphold loads of as much as 400 kilograms and offers sufficient flexibility even for adjustment and contact pressure thanks to 3D adjustment technology. Thanks to these heavy-duty hinges, suitably spacious thoroughfares could be created. To ensure the doors meet the desired aesthetic requirements of the room design even in terms of detail, the Variant VX range of hinges is available with a variety of surfaces and knuckle diameters.
