A perfect fit in the door frame

The architects at SKAI divided the large, state-of-the-art villa in the south of Hamburg into three structures. Each is dominated by the material used for the facade. Of the two large cubes that house the living spaces, one was rendered white and the other clad in reddish brown clinker. Between them, the architects put a “canyon of light”, a slender glass block, which provides access to the building and accommodates the stairs.

With regard to the interior fittings too, the architects and developers placed great importance on a precise formal idiom and extremely high-quality building materials. By way of example they chose white doors from Brüchert + Kärner’s “duo” range which, thanks to the totally concealed TECTUS hinge system by SIMONSWERK, could be fitted flush with the walls. In order to seal off the individual areas of the building from one another acoustically, the doors in some cases meet the specifications of the SK3 sound insulation class. Furthermore, the living area, sleeping quarters, and basement were separated from the “canyon of light” by RC3 burglar-resistant entrance doors. These feature a five-point locking system and are held by TECTUS “TE 640 3D A8” door hinges that can accommodate loads of up to 160 kilograms.

So as to fit the doors flush, different models in the TECTUS family were used in other parts of the building. In the rooms on the upper story this was the “TECTUS TE 340 3D”, which can take loads of up to 80 kilograms. On the ground floor the “TECTUS TE 540 3D” was fitted, which is suitable for heavy doors weighing up to 120 kilograms.

The TECTUS fully concealed hinge system is available in versions with load capacities of up to 300 kilograms, maintenance-free slide bearing technology, an opening angle of 180 degrees and convenient 3D adjustment. All TECTUS models share a uniform appearance, with a closed hinge body that hides the routing from view. They are available in different materials and finishes.
