PREVIEW – SALONE DEL MOBILE 2025
A bond for life
‘Milan and the Salone del Mobile are undoubtedly part of each other's history: they are united by a relationship that grows stronger and stronger every year. Our city is proud to share with the Salone del Mobile the ability to grasp the challenges of the present and the commitment to study, carry out and come up with solutions that can have a positive impact on the future of the sector and in the life of the community. For this reason, I see the theme chosen for the 63rd edition of the Salone del Mobile.Milano - enlightened humanism - as both a powerful creative stimulus for all those who work in the field of design and an interesting opportunity to reflect on current events for the many enthusiasts, tourists and buyers who will take part in the events organised in the exhibition spaces and those in the city. Even in 2025, the Salone will be an unmissable event.”’ says Giuseppe Sala, Mayor of Milan.
In total, the Salone del Mobile.Milano team is expecting more than 2000 exhibitors this year. The dynamic layout of the event will be continued: The four pavilions 13 to 15 and 22 to 24 are laid out in the form of a loop. Thematic routes also give visitors the opportunity to explore focal points, such as ‘A Luxury Way’ in pavilions 13 to 15, which is dedicated to the Italian ability to create timeless objects. The Salone del Mobile.Milano will open with Robert Wilson's ‘Mother’ in the Musei Pietá Rondanini - Castello Sforzesco, a dialogue with Michaelangelo's unfinished last masterpiece to the music of Arvo Pärt. The installation was created in collaboration with the City of Milan | Culture and will be on display until 18 May 2025. The works ‘Villa Héritage’ by Pierre-Yves Rochon (Pavilions 13 to 15), ‘La dolce attensa’ by Paola Sorrentino (Pavilions 22 to 24) and the ‘Forest of Space’ arena by Sou Fujimoto (Pavilion 2) can be experienced in the exhibition halls.
As part of the Euroluce Biennale, which focuses on the central role of light in the holistic and sustainable design of public and private spaces, the Euroluce International Lighting Forum is being held for the first time. Under the title ‘Light for Life. Light for Spaces’, it will offer interdisciplinary masterclasses, roundtables and workshops in Pavilion 2 on 10 and 11 April. Robert Wilson, international renowned for his talent for transforming light into an artistic experience, will open the event. Participants include creatives DRIFT, A.J. Weissbard, Marjan van Aubel and Kaoru Mende. Other exhibitions include Workplace 3.0, the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition and S.Project.
In pavilions 5 and 7, on the other hand, the SaloneSatellite will explore the answer to the question of how designers under the age of 35 see craftsmanship and its connection to the future of design: ‘Nuovo Artigianato: Un Mondo Nuovo // New Craft: A New World’ is the motto with which the young talents will look at the past and the future of design. 700 people and 20 leading design schools and universities will be taking part in this year's prestigious show, which Marva Griffin Wilshire launched in 1998. The SaloneSatellite Awards ceremony will take place on 9 April at 3 pm in the arena of Pavilion 7. ‘A creative reservoir, the only one of its kind in the world, that allows us to discuss the future every year, in an intergenerational dialogue. It is a huge opportunity: the Salone is industrial manufacturing, creative capital and working capital, it is Milan, it is a bridge that takes us into the world, it is young people. In 2024, the number of student visitors rose by 28.6 per cent. This year we are ready to renew the invitation with specially discounted tickets for those who are about to enter the world of our sector’s infinite manufacturing professions. It is together with the companies, with the 'thinkers' taking part in the 2025 Cultural Programme, and with young people, that we want to build worlds fit for the future.", says Maria Porro, President of the Salone del Mobile.Milano.
