Versatile and efficient
How multifunctional a linear table can be is recently demonstrated by Robin Rizzini for Pedrali: "Rizz" was introduced at the Salone del Mobile this year. The idea: four elegantly shaped legs made of die-cast aluminium, which are featured by a triangular section that faces outwards and tapers into a round shape. Resting elegantly on the floor, they support a rectangular table top with rounded edges. This can be produced of solid laminate, Fenix or composite marble and is available in many individual designs. A durable aluminium support frame under the table top ensures great stability. Robin Rizzini has developed the ‘Rizz Workstation’ based on this idea: The solid structure is complemented by a steel column placed in the centre. Concealed beneath the work surface is a practical cable management system, while the central recesses make it possible to insert sound-absorbing screens.
Inspired by classic work and reading tables in library spaces, Rizzini has chosen a bridge structure for the LED lighting, which can also be used to hold plants or small items if required. The lighting at the table is controllable in terms of light intensity for each seat as needed. Thanks to the numerous colour and material variations, the ‘Rizz Workstation’ can also be designed in a monochrome scheme or as a patchwork. 'I believe that the office has an extremely important role to fulfil as a place to meet and exchange ideas. It is therefore important to preserve this resource. The aesthetic approach to how we designers organise the office needs to not be too similar to the home, while retaining a spark of technicality and the necessary level of comfort at work," he says.
With the further development of ‘Rizz’, Robin Rizzini has created a piece of furniture that functions as a hybrid between a homely environment and a modern office space. Available in different sizes with two, four and eight seats as well as arranged in a row to form an ensemble, the table can support concentrated work and team dialogue to suit every need. With an architectural, minimalist design language, the design of ‘Rizz’ and ‘Rizz Workstation’ is also appealingly subtle. Pedrali thus offers interior designers and room planners a versatile all-rounder that can be adapted to any project in terms of colour, finish and surface. And if dismantling should ever become necessary, it can be done without any difficulties, as the designer considered the recyclability of the individual elements right from the start. (am)
