The boutique design hotel “Hôtel Atmosphères” is sweetly located in Paris’ artists’ district of St. Germain, a few meters from the banks of the River Seine and just a stone’s throw from some of the city’s major sights such as the St. Germain Church and the Louvre, not to mention the many art galleries, fashion boutiques and famous Parisian cafés that line surrounding streets. This optimal location makes the hotel an ideal base during a trip to the French capital as well as providing a source of boundless urban inspiration for architect Vincent Bastier and his interior design concept for the hotel. A specialist in furnishing themed hotels, here Bastier has certainly succeeded in shaping a range of atmospheric spaces inspired by themes such as “nature”, “building”, “urbanity”, “by night” and “palace”. Be it in the foyer, lounge or each of the rooms, Bastier’s interior design concept constantly makes each and every guest feel like they have the City of Light at their feet. Added to which, “Hôtel Atmosphères” is dedicated to photo artist Thierry des Ouches: 112 of his works, images from the French metropolis, have been integrated into the interior design and thus come to form something of a permanent exhibition that is spread throughout the hotel. Overall, the design concept is shaped by high-quality furniture and lighting as well as striking colors in the fabrics, walls and tiles. By extension, only the most exclusive design products came into question when fitting the hotel’s 56 bathrooms. The architect opted for the Axor Bouroullec collection by designer brand Axor from bathroom specialist Hansgrohe, based in the south German town of Schiltach close the French border. The collection consists of more than 90 components such as faucets with varying outlet heights, showers, washstands, bath tubs and accessories, which open up an infinite world of possibilities for customized bathroom design. With the help of the Axor Bouroullec Composer feature on the manufacturer’s website, users can design and experiment with a variety of bathroom combinations to find the perfect match. The fittings in the Axor Bouroullec collection stand out from the crowd thanks to their restraint and ergonomic design. The minimalist but not geometric design is understatement at its best. The washstands and bath tubs set particularly striking accents defining the room and its use as functional landscapes. Philippe Grohe, Head of the Axor brand, explained the term “functional landscapes” in a recent interview with Thomas Wagner for Stylepark: “Not only is it challenging for the designer to create; it also means that companies like Hansgrohe must work more intensively with architects and interior designers than hitherto. By this I mean we must talk to everyone dealing with bathroom design and furnishing on a daily basis and ask the question: What expectations do we have of a bathroom these days? All of this is implicit in the key phrase ‘functional landscape’.” “Hôtel Atmosphères” in Paris has made its choice, fitting each of its 56 rooms with a unique Axor Bouroullec bathroom. www.stylepark.com/en/news/the-bathroom-as-a-functional-landscape/320576
