Object Carpet has done pioneering work with the new carpet "NEOO": It is made of a single material that can be completely recycled and retains its high-quality properties over many life cycles.

"We live in a society where you have to take responsibility, which means not just talking about maximising profits, but thinking long-term and developing products in such a way that they can be recycled again and again," says Lars Engelke, managing director of Object Carpet. By 2025, the manufacturer of carpets, carpet tiles and fitted carpets from Baden-Württemberg plans to bring only circular products to the market. The development of "NEOO" in cooperation with the Dutch Covestro company Niaga is an important step towards this goal.

Manufactured in the colours "Coal", "Twilight" and "Basalt", "NEOO" is made entirely of polyester, and the upper and backing material is also held together with a polyester adhesive developed in-house. After use, the carpet can be completely melted down and extruded to produce new fibres. According to Object Carpet, this method is four to five times more efficient than producing new polyester. Thanks to the Niaga product passport, the product take-back procedure for recycling is also easy to view.

The coating process of "NEOO" takes place without water or gas, allowing energy savings of up to 95 percent compared to conventional production methods. "For a circular carpet, we had to think differently from the ground up and break away from conventional processes," says Lars Engelke. "NEOO" is also convincing in terms of product characteristics: easy to install, robust and easy to clean, it offers the best prerequisites for many years of use in every respect. (am)
