A conventional carpet is usually made up of more than thirty different materials. It is almost impossible to disassemble it back into its individual parts. This is where the innovation of "Duo" comes in, which Object Carpet is now presenting after ten years of development. The manufacturer, based in Denkendorf, Swabia, has succeeded in producing a carpet that consists of just two components and is just as durable. Polyester and polyamide can be easily separated and recycled, and the "Duo" carpets do not require any fillers at all. A new type of hotmelt adhesive bonds the fabrics and can be easily loosened by applying heat during the subsequent recycling process. The so-called "click/unclick" technology ensures easy separation of the backing and yarn after each usage cycle – a real game changer in the carpet industry. But see for yourself. (eb)
