Munich Design Days: ZEITRAUM
In spring, the industry is drawn to Munich, where Stoff Frühling has been held since 1997. This year, a new and eagerly awaited event will be presented in parallel: the Munich Design Days. The former liqueur factory from 1873 on the Praterinsel was chosen as the central exhibition venue, which offers a good 2000 square metres of space with its filling hall, orangery, customs vault and root cellar.
Zeitraum is presenting a selection of its timeless classics and an exciting new development in this extraordinary setting: designer Catharina Lorenz has rethought the ‘SIT’ chair collection for the traditional company. Its clear form made of solid wood in combination with a wickerwork upholstery alternative is a strong reference to the aesthetics of craftsmanship. The seat is woven by hand with a robust cotton belt and offers comfortable seating. At the same time, the ensemble emphasises the long service life of Zeitraum furniture: if one of the straps needs to be replaced, this can be done with little effort.
Visually, the aesthetics of the woven textile pattern lend the chair a pleasant warmth that is particularly suited to the ‘warm minimalism’ style, which combines clarity and cosiness in a gentle balance. The natural and black colours of the cotton belt harmonise perfectly with the frame, which is available in oak, oak stain, American cherry or American walnut from renewable forestry. With its simple elegance and exciting material combinations, ‘SIT’ can be integrated into any interior.
Visitors to the Zeitraum exhibition at the Munich Design Days can therefore look forward to high-quality furniture whose timelessness finds an ideal stage in the architectural context of the listed building. Free shuttle buses will connect the two events Münchner Stoff Frühling and Munich Design Week. (am)
