Robust elegance
Floor coverings in hotels do not have an easy life: They have to look good and be very robust, after all heavy suitcases are dragged over them every day, and they are walked on by many feet. Moreover, for a more relaxed atmosphere they should reduce the sound of clicking heels and the reverberations of luggage wheels on the floor. Simultaneously, they should not be slippery if guests should be in a hurry. The owners of the family-managed hotel Van der Valk in Antwerp, Belgium had all these considerations on their wish list when looking for suitable tiles as part of their modernization of the four-star establishment. Their wishes were met by Mosa “Solids” with a non-slip micro relief surface.
As the in-house interior designer from Van der Valk had opted for a new look with an industrial flair featuring vintage style lightbulbs, materials like leather and iron and numerous black surfaces, the coloring of the tiles had to match. Mosa “Solids” in matt graphite black fit the bill. Measuring 90 x 90 centimeters, they make the hotel’s public areas such as the reception and breakfast room appear larger. Compared with the standard size of 60 x 60 centimeters, the combination of coarse and fine grains and the greater shading in the ceramic tiles make for additional depth. (am)
