The perfect pool
The detached house designed by CONIX RDBM Architects is located on the outskirts of Antwerp and creates a real contrast: Like some remix of Mies’ Barcelona Pavilion and the hyper-modern Villa Arpel in Tati’s “Mon Oncle” movie it creates clear lines in the countryside. Surrounded by a thick green lawn and high pines, the white standalone with its floor-to-ceiling windows and wooden sections is decidedly purist without seeming sterile. The reason: the spacious dark-grey patio, embracing the house like an artificial topographical band and sloping slightly to an expanse of water.
To emphasize the impression of artificial landscaping, CONIX RDBM Architects chose the 1 x 1 Meter-format tiles from Mosa’s “Ultragres Terra Maestricht” collection. As the tiles’ discrete satin color hues form soft transitions from one tile to the next. One section of the patio floor can be lowered smoothly to transform into a swimming pool complete with elegant gentle steps. A tough and hardly everyday task for the tiles, which the Mosa “Ultragres Terra Maestricht” collection handles marvelously. Moreover, these ceramic tiles contain no toxic substances such as lead, mercury or cadmium that could impact negatively on the environment and human health. The tiles do not emit any toxic substances whatsoever even when used for a long period of time – after all, they come with cradle-to-cradle certification. (am)
