In Suspense

With "Random Stick", the successful Lodes series of "Random" finds a horizontal extension that once again demonstrates the expertise of the Venetian family business: a decorative lighting solution with high functionality.

The success story of "Random" began in 2017, when Lodes presented the ultra-light pendant lamp by Chia-Ying Lee: three spherical glass diffusers in different sizes form a simple yet vibrant unit. From 2020, "Random Solo" offered the possibility of integrating the elegant shape into a room as a single pendant light or as cluster composition. This year, two new additions have been made to the collection in terms of size and function. As a contemporary reinterpretation of the chandelier, "Random Cloud" embodies everything that is fascinating about a cloud: it is voluminous and at the same time light, as if floating. The ultra-thin spherical glass bodies for "Random Stick", attached to an elegant hexagonal bar, look like soap bubbles that briefly touch the surface before quickly moving on. The simple yet elegant look of "Random Stick" is possible thanks to the high-quality materials and craftsmanship of Lodes. The blown glass spheres of the pendant lamp cast an atmospheric light into the room. In addition to the diffuse lighting provided by the spheres, there is a directional light that gives the pendant lamp a new function within the series: the lighting expert has placed LEDs on the underside of the rod, which provide ideal illumination for a surface below.

The latest addition to the family is available in two versions: the 100 cm version with four spheres and two LEDs is designed for a dining table or desk. In the longer version, with a length of 150 cm, six spheres and three LEDs, the luminaire also provides optimal illumination of longer surfaces, such as the counter in an exquisite bar or in retail. Installing them in a row makes even longer, varied options possible.

Since the globes are available in all seven versions of the "Random" series and can be combined on the gold, black or matt white rods, exceptional colour plays and exciting lighting effects can be created – this underlines the concepts of randomness and transience that are typical of soap bubbles. The many versions that arise from the possible combinations of the colours of the rods and spheres allow completely different characters and light effects to be realised. From bold tones and unusual contrasts to tone-on-tone nuances, the most suitable solution can be found for the style of any environment. Launched in spring, the delicate luminaire will soon be on display at the Design Post during Orgatec 2024.
