Line Depping is Denmark’s latest export success in the world of design. At the recent “Mindcraft” exhibition in Milan’s Chiostro Minore di San Simpliciano, together with her partner, Jakob Jørgensen, she showcased her newest brainchild: “Eiffel”, a modular shelving system combining sandcast aluminum and oak shelves. The trick in the tale: The lateral supports attach directly to the shelves by way of integrated connectors. The young mother shot to fame with her functional and decidedly artisanal approach: Her furniture and other products – the bentwood clothes racks “Elements” and “Hook” are typical examples – allude very much to mind Danish modernism, albeit in a lighter and more playful interpretation.

Where would you like to live?
I live in Christianshavn in Copenhagen, which I enjoy very much. I am close to the water and the old canals. I love to go for a walk both in the old quarter of Christianshavn, but also to Christania and the old boat building area, which haves some beautiful areas with a lot of nature.
Your favorite character in the history of design?
Kaare Klint was one of the first architects in Denmark who worked with modernist furniture. He worked very functionalistic and analyzed the needs for sizes of cabinets etc. His starting point was old classic furniture. I like this conservative approach to furniture design, where you are aware of the heritage and use it in a new way in new designs.
