Ligne Roset 2024: KASHIMA
The seventies were decisive for the rise of Ligne Roset: a creative spirit of optimism was in the air, furniture designs became bold and experimental in contrast to the clear lines of the previously popular mid-century design. Expansive upholstery was in demand, as were warm colours and fresh ideas for designing with the new materials of the time. In this open atmosphere, Jean Roset, the grandson of the founder of Ligne Roset, decided to focus the family business not only on the successful contract business but also on furnishing living spaces. Together with designer Michel Ducaroy, he presented the ‘Togo’ sofa in 1973, which looks like an oversized seat cushion with an upright backrest and is still internationally popular today. This was followed shortly afterwards by the iconic ‘Kashima’ full-foam sofa, whose diamond-shaped quilting is reminiscent of the design of the ‘Chesterfield sofas’ and whose soft curves are a wonderful place to relax. Like a nest, ‘Kashima’ offers the seated person comfortable support, which is achieved by means of inner cords, supports, wedge cushions and the comfortable seat height of 38 centimetres.
As you would expect from Ligne Roset, a great deal of expertise and craftsmanship has gone into the production of the collection, which includes a two-seater, three-seater, medium meridienne, large meridienne and stool in two sizes. For the ideal seating quality, the furniture offers a sophisticated structure of soft and hard elements, which is provided with foam qualities in four different density categories. The upholstery quilted with wadding ensures a comfortable surface. (am)
