STYLEPARK LIGHT + BUILDING AUTUMN EDITION
A holistic approach to light
With an eye to Light + Building’s Autumn Edition, which will be bringing a considerable number of players from the lighting sector to Frankfurt/Main at the beginning of October, the style experts at bora.herke.palmisano have agreed to conduct an advance analysis of the most relevant trends in the lighting and luminaire sector. As Claudia Herke, Cem Bora, and Annetta Palmisano see it, three trends have emerged in the field of decorative lighting: “sensuous + imaginative”, “serious + unfeigned” and “judicious + eminent”.
The first trend demonstrates the new opportunities available to creatives for designing the intelligently networked digitized world. “In the case of ‘sensuous + imaginative’ we are talking about innovative lighting solutions that feel good and conjure up a positive atmosphere in the room. Futurist ideas as regards the design and materials are also a great source of inspiration here. 3D artists with rendering-based designs, virtual furniture and animated landscapes look at staged atmospheres from completely new perspectives. They play with future visions that identify opportunities for producing designs which produce surreal effects and make our eyes doubt what they see,” explains Annetta Palmisano. The result is experimental luminaires, the diffuse aesthetics of which are the product of a world where design knows no bounds and the relevant items can be produced on demand.
The second trend, “serious + unfeigned”, is all about issues of flexibility, sustainability and materials research. The spectrum we are talking about ranges from lampshades made of fruit fibers to cordless luminaires. The colors on offer here have a natural feel to them – shades boasting the aesthetics of earthenware and minerals. “A potpourri of products that explore the fluid boundaries between inside and outside, in the process demonstrating how patios, balconies and gardens are increasingly being transformed into additional living spaces,” explains Palmisano. A holistic design that takes account of the lifecycle of the products right from the manufacturing stage. The focus is also on the naturalness of the colors used. Their understated, warm qualities allow the luminaires to fit in harmoniously with any environment.
The third trend, “judicious + eminent”, combines a familiar, geometric stylistic vocabulary with new ideas to offer an inspired and fresh take on traditional designs. Here, there’s clearly been a shift in perspective by both the manufacturers and the creatives. “Traditional brands are commissioning “hot” designers to reinterpret their classics in a new light, in the same way that designers are interpreting the history of their trade in an unusual way,” comments Palmisano. In this context, the essence of the specific shape is one of the major considerations – with the tone being set by dark colors that boast a strong blue component and surfaces that look, to all intents and purposes, like velvet. With preference being given to a responsible approach to resources and materials, the use of modern technologies in design and the authenticity and durability of the products, we can expect new developments in the field of lighting and luminaires. Style experts from bora.herke.palmisano will be in Hall 3.1 daily. Further background information on the trends identified by them will be provided at Light & Building Autumn Edition.
Alongside the trends identified by the style gurus bora.herke.palmisano, Light + Building Autumn Edition will also be presenting important aspects such as: “Green Deal & Sustainability”, “Electrification & Digitalization” and “Light & Design”. Since social developments and overall political conditions influence the above, the relevant fields are mutually interconnected. “Electrification & Digitalisation” includes, among other things, efficiently planning the various trades involved in buildings in order to ensure that the item of real estate in question is handled in line with requirements. Energy is only used where it is needed. The building’s “digital twin” helps to keep track of all elements of the ensemble and to recognize when maintenance is necessary before it is too late, as well as allowing the relevant parties to access all important data at any time. “Green Deal & Sustainability” illustrates how using renewable energies, LED technology and automated building services engineering can contribute to meeting the relevant climate targets. Other aspects dealt with include an infrastructure optimized for electric cars and the use of an intelligent power grid that provides regenerative energies economically and at any time.
Similarly, another of the most important subjects, “Light and Design” includes considerably more than ‘just’ the presentation of new and decorative luminaires for both indoor and outdoor use. It also presents the kind of sophisticated lighting scenarios that can protect against accidents and, at the same time, help to cut the crime rate. Moreover, examples demonstrate how it is possible to rid such things as ambient air and surfaces of pathogens like the Covid19 virus by using UV-C rays. In this context, visitors to Light + Building Autumn Edition can get a good overall impression about how far the technologies relating to humancentric lighting have been developed to date, technologies that, by adapting color temperature to the time of day, can improve people’s sense of well-being.
With the abundance of trends and important subjects to be found at Light + Building Autumn Edition, we can definitely look forward to the lighting on offer in the coming fall. (am)
