Heating sustainably
The advantages of maintzaining a house’s cycle all year round using renewable energy are ably demonstrated by a construction project by architectural company Werner Friedl from Augsburg. The developers chose a detached house built to the passivhaus standard for their home. Most of the heat is generated on the one hand by solar collectors and, on the other, by a pellet-powered system. To this end, they chose the Wodtke “ivo.tec”, a silent pellet primary oven and boiler. This CO2-neutral heating system handles de-ashing and cleaning of the heat exchanger automatically, which considerably reduces the effort for cleaning and maintaining the system. Thanks to its slender shape and the combination of glass and steel, the pellet stove also cuts a fine figure in a sitting room.
For the eco-friendly energy-plus house built to the passivhaus standard – it relies on solar power and rain water – the Wodtke “ivo.tec” is an ideal complement, handling the heating during the winter months. Given its outstanding performance as regards energy efficiency and emissions, it has been awarded the German “Blauer Engel” environmental certification. Heating is automatic as the stove relies on a thermostat and turns itself on as soon as the ambient temperature drops below a pre-set level. If required, it can also be activated by the press of abutton. The pellet tank does not need to be filled manually, as an automatic filler system has been developed to transport the pellets to the boiler room. (am)
