Modern nostalgia
"The collection is inspired by retro fashion trends and the revival of 60s and 70s furniture designs. It provides insights into fifty years of carpet tile design. The design process included research and conversations with carpet tile pioneers to capture the nostalgia of historic designs and their evolution," explains David Oakey, founder of David Oakey Designs and product designer for Interface. Both Axminster and Wilton designs, as well as hand-painted motifs, were part of the wide creative spectrum that Interface drew inspiration from and realised using current tufting technology. "The result is versatile designs that allow you to create expressive, calm as well as stylish spaces," says Oakey.
The "Past Forward" collection includes 14 products, each in four different colours, and thus offers numerous possibilities for an individual, homely design, even in large areas. Zoning and routing can also be created through the modular design. Parallel to a diverse design, Interface reduces the CO2 footprint with its products: "Past Forward" is made of 100 percent recycled polyamide and is climate-neutral throughout its entire life cycle. For the company, this offer is easy; after all, sustainability has been on the internal agenda for thirty years already. The goal: to become a CO2-negative company by 2040. (am)
