According to a press release, Koelnmesse has decided to suspend the January edition of imm cologne 2025 after intensive discussions with the German Furniture Industry Association (VDM) and the German Furniture and Kitchen Retail Association (BVDM). This decision would give all parties involved the opportunity to develop a new trade fair format in dialogue with Koelnmesse that proves to be viable for the future.

The main reason for this is the difficult economic situation for German furniture manufacturers, the lack of demand for furniture in the and the associated budgetary restraint in the industry. ‘The cancellation of the imm cologne is extremely regrettable, but ultimately a necessary and correct step,’ says Leo Lübke, President of the VDM. He continues: ‘Like many other sectors, the furniture market has changed significantly in recent years - and with it the demands placed on trade fairs. Unfortunately, the current situation in the industry is forcing many companies to rethink. As an industry, we are working intensively with Koelnmesse on new concepts that are specifically tailored to the individual furniture segments. As the largest furniture nation in Europe, we need our central industry shows and are relying on the furniture expertise in Cologne.’

It was extremely difficult for them to suspend imm cologne in 2025, but the logical decision in view of the general industry situation,’ says Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse. ‘Our aim remains to offer the to offer the furniture industry an international stage in Germany. We are already working together on promising concepts that will fulfil the changing needs of all participants in the best possible way. Koelnmesse is the world's No. 1 trade fair for interiors, such as Orgatec, interzum and spoga+gafa are impressive proof of this. Now it's time to get our flagship back on track together with the furniture industry!’.
