The intelligent home

It helps save resources and allows easy control of heating and the like: Gira's smart building technology.

A zero-energy wooden house that generates almost as much energy as it consumes and for which a central control system was desired: From solar thermal energy to the photovoltaic system to the heating and lighting technology, all the relevant components in the single-family house near Remscheid are connected to a cable-based Gira KNX system. The occupants use a Gira X1 server as the central operating unit. It can be operated either directly via the touchscreen, the Gira G1, or via an app. This means that, among other things, the temperatures, heating times, sound systems and complex lighting scenarios can be programmed and activated individually for each room. To select an atmosphere using the Gira G1, users can either activate the individual settings or assign a function to their placing the entire palm of their hand on the display, such as switching lighting on or off. Moreover, the system can be expanded or updated at any time with additional components.

Gira has of course also catered to the safety aspect: The door communication system 106 has a protected camera, which also delivers a clear image when light is poor. If smoke is detected or windows or doors are forced open the owner receives immediate notification via cell phone. As a special service, the KNX energy meter activates a call to the house phone if the power or water are not used for a longer period. If the call is not taken, the system informs e.g. the owner’s family by text message about a possible emergency.
