Mythical world of seating
Oases – are places of which many a person dreams. Lush green areas that somehow have an alluring appeal. Colorful fauna and rare flora – when creating this opulent fabric pattern for Freifrau Sitzmöbelmanufaktur in Lemgo, North-Rhine Westphalia designer Christian Trzaska let his imagination run wild: a deep-green jungle with a peacock, magnificent feathers and a tarsier with large eyes peeps out from behind branches. A textbook example of a realm of fantasy. And the story of how the design came about also sounds like something someone concocted: Tattoo artist Christian Trzaska is not only behind the one or other tattoo adorning the arms of both sons of Freifrau founder Hansjörg Helweg, his illustrations also feature on several decks for Marc and Niklas Helweg’s skateboard label. Birgit Hoffmann, Art Director at Freifrau and graphic artist Meike Winters recognized the great potential in Trzaska’s motifs and asked the tattoo artist to design an exclusive textile motif for them.
Many sketches, drawings and an oil painting later he had come up with a result. “Oasis-Gobelin” is the name of the decoration which is woven in Belgium by the firm Meisterwerke and alludes to the particularly intricate patterns once produced by the Parisian “Manufacture des Gobelins”. The unique oasis motif is available for almost all seating series by Freifrau. (mh)
