Committed to Design
In 1984, design students Wolf and da Costa, based in Rodgau near Frankfurt, certainly had no idea how long-term and far-reaching the success of serien.lighting would be. Their vision: innovative luminaire design combined with a high standard of technology and craftsmanship. Since then, serien.lighting has stood internationally for an uncompromising focus on quality, technical expertise and long-lasting design. The product range of luminaires for private and public spaces includes in-house designs and collaborations with other designers.
To mark the fortieth anniversary of serien.lighting, a comprehensive retrospective will be on display at the Museum Angewandte Kunst in Frankfurt a. M. in March 2024. Together, the two founders and long-standing business partners da Costa and Wolf have developed a concept that invites visitors to immerse themselves in the serien.lighting cosmos. On almost 300 square metres, luminaires, projects and custom-made products are placed in filigree frames like objects in space. The staging of the exhibits thus has a consistent formal language and follows the clear geometry of Richard Meier's museum architecture. The extensive spectrum of work is not presented in a linear fashion, but rather the designs are presented in equal measure in terms of their relevance. It quickly becomes clear that the designer duo and their team have consistently pursued a basic formal approach over four decades and have constantly explored it anew in terms of technology.
