It is with curiosity that we are gazing down at the floor: For the upcoming Domotex, the world’s leading trade fair for floor coverings, which is set to take place in Hanover from January 11 to 14, 2014, the organizers of Deutsche Messe AG teamed up with Stylepark to formulate the “Innovations@Domotex” concept. The range of services not only includes a trend show at the event itself, but comes complete with an extensive information pack destined to showcase the innovations at the heart of Domotex, which is sure to add detail and excitement to your Domotex visit.
The floor is a central design element, yet planners sadly tend to pay little attention to it. “Innovations@Domotex” has been created to prepare the ground for architects and designers wishing to attend Domotex. A specialist jury chaired by internationally acclaimed Munich designer Stefan Diez has selected the 62 most relevant innovations from the fields of resilient floor coverings and carpets, parquet and laminate flooring as well as modern, handmade carpets. “Innovations@Domotex” will be showcased in designated areas in Halls 6, 9 and 17. The mastermind behind the design of these zones in hall 6 and 17 is acclaimed Berlin architect Jürgen Mayer H., who has translated his signature style into flexible exhibition modules.
However, these special zones aim to be more than just a trend forum and offer, among other things, a platform for lectures, a meeting point for industry representatives complete with with hospitality offerings, and a starting point for expert guided tours of the trade fair.
Those wishing to plan their trade fair visit in advance can consult the “Innovations@Domotex Guide”, a pocket-size brochure packed with detailed information, not to forget the Innovations@Domotex Space website hosted by Stylepark, which provides background information and interviews as an added service.
The expert guided tours organized by World-Architects will provide a personal glance at the fair, along with first-hand information about products and manufacturers. The guide team includes Jürgen Mayer H. and his business partner Wilko Hoffmann, designer Stefan Diez, Susanne Brandherm and Sabine Krumrey from Brandherm & Krumrey interior design firm, Marc Clemenceau Bailly from New York architectural firm Bailly & Bailly, and Corina Kretschmar-Joehnk and Peter Joehnk from JOI Design, an interior design firm in Hamburg. Tours take approximately two hours. To register please click here.
The discussion rounds with architects, designers and trend scouts organized by specialist journal AIT take a look at visionary designs and potential applications of floor coverings. How do trends in society and advances in technology impact on floor coverings? Where do shortages in resources, recycling methods and certification come in? And what role will floor coverings play in the future? The venue is the “Innovations@Domotex” area in Hall 6. For further information please click here.
Domotex is a must for all aspiring experts in floor coverings and their special features. Boasting some 14,400 exhibitors from 60 countries, the world’s leading trade fair for floor coverings offers a diverse and international panorama. In mid-January, around 40,000 professional visitors from 80 countries are expected to attend the fair, which will be hosted in 12 of the overall 26 halls that make up the Hanover trade fair complex. For visitors from trade, wholesale and retail, architecture and interior design it is the ideal platform to scout out the latest trends and innovations and have a chat with peers.
Another highlight that rounds out “Innovations@Domotex” is the “Wood Flooring Summit” for representatives from the parquet and laminate flooring industry. Presentations and discussions will be held in Hall 9.
Another feature “not to be missed” is the lecture by trend scout Matthias Horx from the “Deutsches Zukunftsinstitut”. On January 11, he will speak on “The Future of Home Living – Central Trends Through to 2025”, also in Hall 9. For further information please click here.
Finally, we are eagerly anticipating the winners of the ninth “Carpet Design Award”. The prize honors the most exciting and attractive modern handmade carpets (Hall 16). And because we are increasingly venturing outside, “Outdoor Living” with suitable floor coverings that withstand the elements has been given a special focus in Halls 8 and 9. (mm)
