How do you create an atmosphere with outdoor furniture that places the emphasis on tranquility and being together – rather than on being indoors or outdoors? Cecilie Manz based her design for “Atmosphere,” the furniture series has she developed for Gloster, on finding on answer to precisely this question. The resulting weather-resistant teak furniture with delicate powder-coated aluminum frames appears light and cozy.
The designer eschewed bright colors and instead chose matt hues for the covers. Once seated, a further distinctive feature becomes apparent: The entire ensemble from the sofa to the table is lower than usual. According to Cecilie Manz, sinking deep into the cushions is the best way to foster a feeling of “calm and comfort”. It’s easy to see how this inviting concept invites users to settle back somewhat longer. And should there ever be a couple of extra guests who need a place to sit, the side tables can easily be turned into seats by adding cushions, too.
