Quilts from Raf
There are two masters of the unconventional who meet in this project, two who have little to do with conventions in their profession. With his free and amorphous forms and his playful approach, furniture designer Gaetano Pesce has perhaps rebelled even more radically than the Memphis movement against the purely functionalist design of modernity. Fashion designer Raf Simons is once again preparing to lead a fashion brand back from mediocrity to the top with style-forming creations, this time the 90s icon Calvin Klein.
On the occasion of Design Miami/Basel, furniture manufacturer Cassina and Calvin Klein/Raf Simons presented a special edition of the "Feltri" armchair, a 1987 classic by Gaetano Pesce. In the standard version, the collar-like backrest of the chair made of heavy wool felt is lined on the inside with a single-colour upholstery. Instead, handmade colorful quilts are used for the special edition - each one a unique piece, none resembles the other.
The first fifty copies of the collection can be seen in a large installation at the exhibition in Basel and can be purchased on site. The second tranche will then be available through Cassina. (fap)
