What can a sustainable mobility turnaround in the city look like and how can transport systems such as underground trains or regular buses be usefully supplemented? These questions are addressed by the "Cable Car World" trade fair, which for the first time offers a forum for urban mobility with cable cars. To this end, it sheds light on planning and traffic aspects and shows how cable cars complement local public transport in cities such as Paris, Toulouse or Luxembourg.
The two-day trade fair with integrated specialist congress will take place in Essen from 21 to 22 June 2022 and is under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport. On both days, there will be lectures by experts from science and practice as well as discussion rounds on the most relevant topics. For example, Arndt Ulrich, Head of the Staff Office of the State Councillor for Civil Society and Citizen Participation of the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg, Stuttgart, will speak on the factors that are decisive for the successful implementation of infrastructure projects with suitable communication strategies and tools for citizen participation.
In doing so, "Cable Car World" also explores the question of why cable cars are still a novelty in public transport in Europe despite advantages such as a positive environmental balance or a short construction time. The aim of the trade fair is to bring together different players in order to develop joint strategies and future scenarios for the implementation of cable cars in urban areas: transport experts can exchange views directly with specialists and discuss problems such as lack of know-how, legal ambiguities or difficulties in gaining acceptance.
The nucleus of the "Cable Car World" is the so-called "Mobility Lab", where interfaces to various topics are created: These include the topic of "Society", which deals with the networking of different transport systems, among other things. The topic "Sustainability" sheds light on aspects such as the zero emissions and service life of ropeways or the optimal use of resources in their construction. The "Technology" theme highlights concrete solutions for the maintenance, operation and comfort of cable cars, while the "Economic efficiency" theme deals with investment costs and funding opportunities. Cable Car World" sees itself as a platform that provides information in an easy-to-understand manner in order to illustrate the potential of urban ropeway systems as an efficient, flexible, safe and sustainable means of transport.
