Fresh design from Sweden

A total of six product prototypes by the final-year students of the Beckmans Collage of Design are presented as part of the "Room Service" exhibition, which were created in cooperation with the manufacturers Dux, Gärsnäs, Johanson Design, Kinnarps, Källemo and Storängen Design. All products are ideal for use in the home office, from the flexible laptop table to the day bed and the seating sculpture, which serves both as a table and as a comfortable seat. Pleasantly lightweight in design, the furniture can be quickly moved in its position in the room. In the choice of materials, the focus is predominantly on natural materials such as birch, ash and oak wood, limestone, marble or wool – complemented by elegant lines of powder-coated metal. With the current cooperation, the students have managed to create furniture designs in collaboration with established manufacturers that surprise with creative forms, are conceived sustainably and can be integrated multifunctionally into a variety of architectural contexts and uses of space.

The physical show in "Sergels torg" in the middle of Stockholm, an underground shopping arcade under the square of the same name, can be visited by appointment until 13 February 2021. In parallel, students of visual communication at Beckmans College have developed a virtual 360-degree tour of the exhibition. It also features other projects by students from Konstfack Art College and Malmstens Linköping University. (am)
