Diversity for life
100 objects from 25 years were selected: Including furniture, lights, home accessories, a sewage system, material experiments, tools, toys, prostheses - divided into 25 categories. These range from ‘Circular’ to ‘Material as Possibility’ to ‘Empowerment’ and show the qualities that the designs offer both for the optimisation of everyday life and in favour of systemic change. The exhibits include both prototypes and series products from young creatives and established companies, inviting visitors to be inspired by the ideas. At the same time, the overview shows the development of Austrian product design and poses the question of what constitutes ‘good design’ today. ‘Ideally, contemporary product design stands for a dynamic and holistic approach that focuses on the needs of modern society and the environment,’ say MAK curators Sebastian Hackenschmidt and Marlies Wirth, who developed the exhibition together with Georg Schnitzer and Peter Umgeher, founders of the Vandasye design studio. As part of the Design Everyday exhibition series during Vienna Design Week, Vandasye regularly presents Austrian product design that proposes sophisticated yet functional and inspiring solutions for everyday life.
