Arper: LEPAL by Doshi Levien
The ‘Lepal Lounge Chair’ by Doshi Levien for Arper is both upright and casual, as it is compact yet offers plenty of comfort. The fully upholstered seat shell provides support and rests on a slim frame with slightly angled legs. Made from FSC-certified wood or powder-coated metal, it can be adapted to any desired environment – just like the upholstery fabrics, which are available in a wide range of colours. The upholstery and inner components can also be made of different materials.
With elegant curves, the design is reminiscent of familiar, organic shapes without appearing nostalgic. However, the high regard for craftsmanship can be seen in the high-quality workmanship of the seating furniture as well as in the many small details that give it its own character. ‘We want to design furniture that works both in the home and in the office. We asked ourselves how to bring a sense of softness to a working environment or public space. Because of the sculptural shape of the chair, I can imagine it being used in an ensemble. I see it in co-working spaces as well as in hotel environments and lobbies. No matter from which angle you look at it, it always looks good,’ says Nipa Doshi. The designers have also thought about possible repairs and the sustainable cycle: the ‘Lepal Lounge Chair’ is made without glue and can be disassembled into its individual parts at any time. (am)
