Your new "Osso" series contains creative elements reminiscent of natural shapes such as foliage. How did you come up with this idea?
Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec: The initial objective wasn't to give the Osso chair as the first element of the collection the shape of foliage but really to let the wood express itself, highlighting the extraordinary sensuality of the material, the quality of the touch. Although in the end the search for softness did admittedly lead us to the shape of a leaf. How important is the quality of the finishing for you? Ronan und Erwan Bouroullec: With Mattiazzi, we quickly understood that we would be able to achieve the best in quality; their singular ability is their "savoir faire". The brand is a perfect mix of craftsmanship and industry. The Osso collection is in plain wood. This project was meant to spotlight Mattiazzi's brilliant culture of wood. The quality of the wood and the quality of the polishing be it digitally controlled or by hand quite literally highlights the essence of each object in the collection.
