Magis: Outdoor South collection by Konstantin Grcic

Precision is Konstantin Grcic's motto when it comes to developing new products, and his new 'South' collection for Magis is no exception. With its flowing, curved lines, the series' airy seating is a clear invitation to relax. They are complemented by dining and coffee tables, rugs, storage baskets and weatherproof blankets, all available in finely coordinated colour schemes: vibrant orange meets deep burgundy, friendly light blue harmonises with dark midnight blue.

As usual, Konstantin Grcic combines formal rigour with his keen sense of design and architecture in South. In addition, he demonstrates his enthusiasm for technology, meticulous material research and creative yet practical expertise during development in collaboration with the Magis design department. The surfaces of the coffee tables, for example, are made of lava stone enamelled with coloured recycled glass from old cathode ray tube televisions.

"From the beginning, we saw the project as a comprehensive collection. The furniture is meant to create spaces and give them an identity," says Grcic, explaining the idea behind South. Seating groups can be formed from chairs, low and high benches, small armchairs and various table variations in different heights. All the seating has armrests and can be combined with matching cushions. The powder-coated tubular steel frames of the table bases and the seating furniture, which has a shell of thinner metal rods, make the furniture weatherproof. They are also suitable for indoor use.

Available as full seat and backrest cushions or as partial seat covers only, the additional seat covers can be flexibly attached to the frame with Velcro. The thin mats are a practical and stylish alternative to traditional cushions. They are made from the same weather-resistant material as the rugs (300x200 cm or 200x200 cm) and storage baskets in the collection.

The top of the largest table (200x120 cm) is made of teak, while the smaller tables (200x90 cm, 160x90 cm and 90x90 cm) and the smaller of the two lower coffee tables (90x90 cm, height 38 cm) are available with coloured lacquered steel tops. The larger coffee table (120x120 cm, height 38 cm) is available with a teak or lava stone top enamelled with coloured recycled glass (burgundy or midnight blue).
