&Tradition: Gio chandelier by Luca Nichetto

Inspired by the delicate craftsmanship of Murano glass, Luca Nichetto combines timeless aesthetics with a modern interpretation in his new Gio lamp for &Tradition.

Nichetto, whose grandfather once made glass objects in Murano, has incorporated this deep-rooted connection into the design of the Gio lamp. The conical shape is created by twisting aluminium elements together - a subtle nod to the centuries-old tradition of Venetian glass art.

Another defining element of the Gio lamp is the influence of renowned Italian designer Gio Ponti, whose innovative approach to Murano chandeliers has had a lasting impact on the design world. Ponti's concept of simplifying traditional forms, reducing superfluous ornamentation and using strong colour contrasts is reflected in Nichetto's work. This is particularly evident in the expressive colour combinations of the lamp: Signal Green, Deep Blue & Ecru White and Vermillion Red, Dark Burgundy & Ecru White. The name 'Gio' pays homage to Ponti and his artistic legacy - a perfect symbiosis of tradition and modernity.
