Baulmann: Dune by Werner Aisslinger
Designed by Werner Aisslinger for Baulmann Leuchten, the 'Dune' luminaires are made of quartz sand using a new 3D printing process and consisting of interlocking, morphing spheres.
The 'Dune' luminaire series showcases an innovative use of quartz sand via a novel 3D printing process. The luminaires consist of intermorphing spheres, created through a technically sophisticated process, and can be used as pendant, floor, table, and wall luminaires in all kinds of architectures and interiors.
The rough surface structure of the sand 3D print makes the luminaires pleasant to the touch and, above all, compatible with spaces that have concrete walls or sustainable clay walls. The 'Dune' series is a hybrid of atmospheric luminaires and spotlights that can warmly illuminate rooms with targeted light.
The 'Dune' luminaire series is manufactured from quartz sand using an innovative, technically sophisticated 3D printing process. The FDB printers used apply the particle material (quartz sand) in 80-400 μm thin layers to the construction surface of the 3D printer, before a high-resolution print head selectively prints and bonds this layer with the polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) binder, depending on the specifications of the component data. Sandhelden GmbH is the responsible 3D printing partner.
