Shading with Added Benefits

Interlace is a light, transparent, soft curtain with a distinctive, irregular organic expression. Designed by Karin An Rijlaarsdam, it explores the delicate irregularities of natural surfaces and is inspired by the crafts, traditions and landscapes of Grand-Bassam, Côte d’Ivoire.
The result of extensive research into weaving techniques and meandering lines that never cross, Interlace features gently undulating lines, reminiscent of handcrafted structures and braids, which flow down its surface. As these lines come from densities in the weave, the curtain occupies a space between plain and patterned design.
Due to the different densities in the binding, Interlace features an exceptionally light, open structure. Curiously, it reveals surprising new expressions depending on whether it is drawn or closed. When drawn to the side, the lines appear consistent, but when the curtain is drawn shut new irregularities in the lines emerge.
