Fiord 2 is a versatile woollen upholstery textile with a subtle three-dimensional expression. Originally designed by Tone Barnung, it comes in an updated, expansive colour scale crafted by Louise Sigvardt. Constructed with a mélange yarn and a unicoloured yarn, Fiord 2 features pearl-like dots that play across its surface. This sophisticated expression reflects a source of inspiration behind the design: moonlight glittering on the rippling waters of a Norwegian fjord.
Louise Sigvardt has refreshed the flexible palette for Fiord 2 with 12 new saturated notes with warm, vibrant nuances. These respect the original colour concept of combining complementary yet diametrically opposite colours, and are inspired by the vibrant colours she encountered travelling in Mexico. For instance, the magenta is based on a traditional Mexican dye, which is widely used by avant-garde architects like Luis Barragán. Louise Sigvardt combined this tone with a grey to represent the mood of both Scandinavia and Latin America. Meanwhile, the yellow hues reference Mexican plastered walls, which reminded her of Fiord’s textured surface.
Louise Sigvardt: “The new colours of Fiord create a connection
between traditional Scandinavian muted notes and colourful Mexico.
Similarly, Barragán was inspired by minimalist aesthetics in his
buildings but has added the traditions and atmospheres from the
country he grew up in. This is the essence of Fiord: to create an
expression that blends different parts of the world in a way that feels
natural, like something one has known for a lifetime.”
Fiord 2 is durable and flame-retardant. Consequently, it is wellsuited
to both public and private places.
