"Something more than Design" – this motto has not only characterised the traditional Italian company Bonaldo, based between Padua and Venice, since its founding in 1936, it also characterises the B/Style catalogue of the family-run furniture manufacturer published at the beginning of 2023. What Giovanni Vittorio Bonaldo started 87 years ago as an innovative metal processing company has developed over the years based on a deep-rooted relationship between man and matter into a mindset driven by research and progress as well as the understanding of living in changing times.
For Bonaldo, "Made in Italy" also means following a cosmopolitan vision that, in addition to using the latest technologies, aims to create places with life, passion and attention to detail in a sustainable and respectful way. B/Style is aimed at architects, planners and distributors and can be understood as a practical and inspiring tool that helps to enliven spaces with a certain spirit – or attitude. In this sense, the world of B/Style would like to consciously invite interiors and all those objects such as tables and chairs, bookshelves, accessories and luminaires, but also upholstered elements such as sofas and beds, to enter into a dialogue that should ultimately result in a coherent whole.
Bonaldo describes "design detached from space" as the self-image of making people forget the existence of walls and life conventions without sacrificing traditional comfort. Design for eternity, detached from prefabricated (thought) patterns, an interpretation of the users – not a composition of the designers. What is to be created in this way is a deep and honestly felt sense of a home, a kind of musical magic that, through the orchestration of the furnishings, allows any visual desires to be fulfilled and the inhabitants to be recognised: The whole is more than the simple sum of the parts.
B/Style is not just a catalogue, but a project, a milestone in the history of the company, and gives rise to coordinated collections that are characterised by a uniform stylistic understanding of design and stand for an interaction between object and ambience. In this way, each living area is interpreted like a small house consisting of different interconnected rooms. With B/Style, Bonaldo creates the transition from "timeless design" to "spaceless design", where distances disappear and rooms merge. The collections Dining, Accessories & Lighting, Living and Night together form the basis for a "conceptual inversion", in which the furniture results from the understanding of a certain living feeling and not vice versa. B/Style stands for a journey through rooms and furnishing elements, the homecoming to places where one feels (like) at home.
