Sauerbruch Hutton have designed an open "Forum" for the Hager Group – in Obernai in the Alsace. It persuasively embodies the company’s brand values.

They’re back in fashion – small, light armchairs with a wooden or tubular steel frame. In the 1950s and 1960s they came to fame as “easy chairs”; now they’ve morphed into “lounge chairs”. For the office or the home.

For Sauerbruch Hutton, appealing to the senses and passion are integral to architecture. Sandra Hofmeister spoke to Matthias Sauerbruch about sustainability in its various facets.

The prominent line-up for Munich’s “Seismographs of Architecture” symposium kindled great expectations. Kazuyo Sejima, Matthias Sauerbruch, Brendan Macfarlane and others traveled to the Bavarian capital specially for the occasion. Since the event hinged not on dialog but on lectures, many a question went unanswered. And the freezing cold draughty glass foyer of the Academy of Fine Arts certainly placed the audience’s patience under additional strain.

What emerged at the imm Cologne in 2011 was that the fair has steadied, and in the form of "Living Kitchen" and "Pure Textiles" has gained two important new areas. Thus, the Cologne hodge-podge of the diversity of homes has something for everyone, for a man of the world, a man of the masses, and for kids, too. That said, the high-end design did not live up to expectations.

Once upon a time they wore suits, white or striped shirts, and bow ties. Today architects, and not just them prefer black. Why? You don't know? A small but amusing book offers insights into how the champions of the discipline turn out - even if they avoid black.
