Born in Austria, he is a French citizen. After having studios in New York, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Venice he currently lives in Milan.
He took his diploma at the Paris ENSAD in 1968, founded Deco Design in 1969 and joined the group France Design in 1970. Continuing his research into plastic materials he designed products for the most different sectors, from sport (in 1998 the MoMA of New York added his back protector, designed for Dainese, to its permanent collection) to the sector of furnishings and mass consumption products. He also teaches at schools of design and universities in Italy and abroad (Domus Academy Milan, European Design Institute Milan, Milan Polytechnic, Strate Collège and Ensci Les Aterliers, Paris, Pôle de Plasturgie in Oyannaux, Design Labour Bremerhaven, Ecole Supériore d’Art of Nancy, Royal College of Art London etc.).
He has received numerous international prizes including the Compasso d’Oro ADI for the soft lamp Drop designed for Flos-Arteluce (1995); Auszeichung für Gutes Design at the Hanover Industrie Forum Design for the appliqué Drop 2 (1996); Createur de l’année at the Paris Salon du Meuble (1997); Compasso d’Oro ADI for the fiberglass and carbonium lamps Tite and Mite designed for Foscarini-Murano (2001) and Design Plus of Frankfurt for the kitchen scales Grammy designed for Fratelli Guzzini (2001). He works with Beretta, Faram, Watco and Matrix in the USA and Fratelli Guzzini in Italy. Since 2002 he has been art director of Ideal Standard, in charge of the company’s design strategy at European level. For Boffi he designed the Alukit kitchen and bathroom system, the dumb waiter Gaston and the multiuse bathroom column Totem.
