For Christina Halskov and Hanne Dalsgaard, the first step in a creative journey is a necessary idea – and the tools of craftsmanship for a daily stream of projects. These two women lead the studio, Halskov & Dalsgaard Design, and both are qualified architects and industrial designers from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts’ School of Architecture. Together, they seek to unite innovative thinking and the unique tradition of Scandinavian design.

Halskov & Dalsgaard’s lamp designs for Lightyears have involved some considerable inspiration. The challenge of design lies in working with light, so the lamp is transformed into a “living” light. This process always involves a degree unpredictability because light – even artificial light – is a living element which is perceived according to the surroundings in which it is placed. This is precisely the inspiration in creating form. Halskov & Dalsgaard have named their universe “Birds,” a word that is positive and optimistic, and is taken from the spaciousness of nature.
