Among the designers who make the difference are those who always look to the future in order to innovate. Ross Lovegrove (Cardiff, 1958) belongs to this class. He is always in the vanguard not only for his style, or for combining his interests in the natu
ral and the technological, but also for his great knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes. The most innovative and also those invented in bygone years.
Rotomoulded plastic was first used in the 1940s, but until the 21st century it had no
t become popular among furniture manufacturers. BD and Lovegrove used it for the first time in 2001 to develop a collection for public seating. It was called www.bdlove.com —another novelty for the time— and introduced a new type: furniture for transit ar
eas, baptised as Transit Furniture Concept. Until that time, furniture for public use was either urban, if destined for the street, or for groups, if dealing with equipping an airport. The designs produced by Ross could be used in both ambits. They were p
olyvalent. They shone just as well on the beach or in a shoe shop. They were innovative in function and in form.
The Bdlove family is made up of a bench —Bdlove bench— big enough for up to ten people, seating which incorporates a lamp —Bdlove lamp—
and another unit which is combined with a planter —Bdlove planter. They are all light, resistant and stackable, projected from rationality but with a backing for personality. They have been successful up till now and are soon to complete their first deca
de in the market. BD is celebrating the occasion by presenting versions with new finishes. Metallised and lacquered. So that they will continue to shine wherever they go.
