Artemide: DREISPITZ by Herzog & De Meuron
8/28/2024
The project starts off from the wish to create a democratic product, capable to last in time thanks to a universal E27 joint. The frame is smart, and works like a mechanical skeleton. Its centre houses the light bulb and features two adjustable arms that support the lampshade. The lampshade is made up of two geometrically identical flat surfaces, joined together by the arms to define the threedimensional geometry. The structural element is visible and interrupts the diffusing surface in two points. The inner frame is not fixed; the arms supporting the lampshade can be tilted to define a lampshade-generating geometry that varies from the cone to the cylinder, changing both the shape and the performance. The quality of light is defined by the diffuser’s tilt, which changes the rate of light emitted either directly or indirectly, by focusing or closing emission, as well as by the type of material and graphics used for the lampshade.
