Under the Floating Dome of the Louvre

The Louvre Abu Dhabi by Jean Nouvel is an architectural work of art in its own right. Artemide technology ensures the art displayed is shown in the best possible light.
Every starting point, regardless of its peculiarities, involves symbolic aspects. It is a creative act generating a communication process which includes summarized references to a particular subject. Incipit is a balanced combination of optical, mechanical, and thermal principles, subjects widely analysed by literature on light.
The LED source is included in a die-cast aluminium body and features both vertical and horizontal elements. Vertical elements are required for mechanical purposes and act as heat conductors, while horizontal elements operate as optical sectors and are reciprocally calibrated.
Its intertwined vertical and horizontal elements are the result of a thorough study on the optical and technological feasibility of die-casting manufacturing processes. Air is allowed to flow in both vertical and horizontal configurations of this fitting, ensuring natural convection-based ventilation in its every variation. The calibration process of its structure allows the downlighter to achieve excellent optical performances and extreme visual comfort. The directly controlled luminous rays feature medium (20°+20°) and wide (43°+43°) beam angles and a 90% light output. At the same time, a minimum percentage of light emissions seeping in through the grid animates the body lamp. However, the emissions are screened by the texture of the aluminium body, ensuring an anti-glare effect and a low luminance of the light fitting.
The optical features of the mechanical surfaces are achieved through manufacturing processes, as the materials are mirror-polished and at a later stage painted.
