Møbel Copenhagen: Rudi von David Thulstrup

Rudi is a family of solid wooden dining and lounge chairs whose clean contemporary form is derived from their function as robust stackable chairs. Designed by David Thulstrup, Rudi plays with rudimentary straight lines and curves, elevating their expression through precise articulation in the way the angled ply back follows the curve of the armrest and how the seat floats on the frame.

In its simplest form the dining chair has short arms that provide support and give it maximum functionality. Rudi’s expressive details come to the fore in the dining chair with full armrests where curve meets square as they form part of the structure. The Rudi lounge chair has wider arms and seat further emphasising the clarity of the form.
