Biographie
Swedish textile designer Åsa Pärson is a graduate of the Swedish School of Textiles in Borås and University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. Her interest in Persian and Oriental rugs inspired her to start weaving and study textile design.
Upon graduation, Åsa Pärson travelled to Istanbul to learn more about Oriental rugs. Since then, she has travelled extensively throughout Asia; whilst working in Laos, Cambodia and Nepal, she studied various craft techniques and developed silk textiles. Her other main source of inspiration is architecture and the meeting of the varying materials found in this area.
In her work with textiles, Åsa Pärson seeks to highlight the patterns from the natural properties of the material. She prefers fixed structures with clean, simple, timeless styling augmented with a touch of coolness. Her work with textiles is based on the notion of letting only the essentials remain.
Åsa Pärson has received several honours and grants. Her work has been exhibited in Sweden, England, and Japan. Furthermore, she has also curated and produced exhibitions focusing on contemporary Swedish craft in Finland, England and Japan.
