Nostalgie und Tatkraft

It was 1987 when Alberto Meda began experimenting with the use of composites in various Alias products: carbon fibre in the light light chair and compact polyurethane co-moulded with metal in his dry table.
Taking his cue from an extremely incisive zoomorphic form of inspiration, a node anchoring the two legs and the table top supports, Meda designed dry.
Now, more than thirty years on, Meda’s table returns to play a lead role in Alias furniture collections, to embody the company’s capacity to combine stylistic lightness and leading-edge technology.
The elegant aluminium base unfolds in a seductive form thanks to a joint that becomes the key detail of the entire project. The crystal glass top concretises in a single element the functionality of the object and its aesthetic component, as it affords a glimpse of the beauty of the structure.
The experience acquired by Alias working with materials of different kinds fuels the creativity of the designer, who offers many interpretations of the same object. Dry, in fact, is the perfect synthesis of an approach to design that finds extraordinary compositional richness in formal essentiality.
Compared to the original project, the new dry features a different geometry of the legs, providing for two different sizes (73 cm and 45 cm high), and a new connection between the structure and the glass top, which is now firmly anchored for safety reasons.
