Lex Pott always starts with the material. The graduate of the Design Academy Eindhoven carves characteristics out of stone, wood and metal, features that would not catch the eye in an unprocessed state. For his set of mirrors called “Transience”, for example, which he designed together with David Derksen, and with his “True Colours Vases” and “True Colours Shelves”, he relies on the oxidation of copper as a key design element in the aesthetic process. For his “Diptych” project he focuses on the different solidities of tree growth rings. By taking a sandblaster to trunks of Douglas fir Lex Pott carves out the soft interstices from between the tender tree rings (the summer months). To create objects of silent elegance.
